On Princess ships some of the outside balconies are tiered. This means that part of the balcony may be open to view by the balconies above you. This is true for the most part on the Dolphin and the Caribe decks.
This is how the view might look from a upper deck balcony. You can see the balconies extend out on the Caribe and Dolphin decks below. Notice also the upper deck balconies may have a overhang from the deck above.
The Caribe deck balconies are larger than most balconies and part of the balcony is covered (see picture, Caribe deck is the middle deck). The Dolphin deck mini-suite balconies do not have any covering and are open to view from the decks above and also to the elements (lower deck in the picture).
Caribe deck balconies are popular though because they are much larger than the standard balcony size.
Balcony cabins may have a pullman bed. This is a bed that pulls down from the ceiling. A ladder is provided to climb up into the bed.
This is the typical balcony size.

Aft facing balconies can be popular because they are larger in size and offer protection from wind while ship is underway.

These ships also have balconies that are different than the normal balconies. This is picture of cabin B747 on the Sapphire Princess.

Most balconies are divided by partitions that can be opened up to join balconies together.
There is a outer walkway on some of the ships that allows passengers to walk by some of the forward balconies on the Emerald Deck. This is the Golden Princess.
If you shop well you may end up with a larger balcony for the same price as a normal balcony. This is cabin E728 on the Grand Princess.
