You can expect 1620 passengers on a typical sailing. This means that the Veendam has a space ratio of 35.2 . (A space ratio less than 33 means that you may find the ship crowded in areas. A space ratio greater than 39 means that there should be plenty of space for each passenger.)
The Veendam has 588 crew members on board. There are 3 passengers for every crew member on board. There are self serve laudromats on this ship. The ship has 2 pools and 2 hot tubs.

During her re-fit Veendam underwent a major structural change. The Seaview Pool was pulled out & replaced with an inches-deep "pool-ette" with lounge chairs placed in the ankle-deep water. This was done to make room for the additional cabins installed on the deck just below, many with balconies.
Cabin CA379 I loved the cabin and the ability to sit outside my room and toast the sunsets and talk to my neighbors in their chairs. Plus, I love walking the deck late at night and it made it very easy to "pop in and out" of my room. Having two seperate room keys was a hassle. This is the first cruise where I meet and became friends with my cabin neighbors. I did not have a problem with people sitting in my "reserved" chairs..but my cabin was the last of the Lanai rooms (379) and there were lots of unreserved chairs near. I did notice some heated discussions about the chairs. Some Lanai cabin people did not like it when people sat in "their deck chairs" even if they were not planning on sitting there... People are funny. The room configuration feels smaller, they took out the fridge, they wash the deck real early every morning (around 5:30 am), the door makes a lot of noise when you close it...(and there is no easy was to softly close the door) are the only complaints I can think to whine about...I would book the room again. -Especially if it is cheaper than a balcony and I did not want the privacy of my own outdoor space.
The reconfigured Retreat has four hot tubs, two round and two oblongs. Apparently, when the Veendam is sailing in warmer climates, the crew will be able to turn off the heat in the two oblongs ... resulting in two hot tubs (the rounds) and two cool-water tubs (the oblongs) that will be oh so refreshing in the sun in warm/hot areas of the world.
The aft pool area is unusual. There are 2 hot tubs and 2 small pools. The small
pools fit 5-6 and feel as if they were designed by someone that has never been
in a pool. There's a lot of wasted space and one large pool would have been a
better use of it. I'm aware of all the changes made to this area in the past. It
still isn't very good. The lido pool had two, person shaped lounges that were
also a space waster and there is a sculpture in the pool that takes up an area
that looks like it may have been a hot tub at one time.
